Updated: Jubilations in Taraba as Appeal Court upholds Ishaku’s election

Jubilations erupted in Jalingo, the Taraba state capital on Monday following an Appeal Court judgement sitting in Abuja that upheld the election of governor Dairu Ishaku.

The Appeal Court which upheld governor Ishaku’s re-election in its judgement further dismissed the appeal by the All Progressives Congress (APC) for lack in merit to challenge the reelection of the governor.

The court in a five-man panel’s unanimous decision upheld the judgment of the Taraba State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.

The court also dismissed the APC’s petition for ‘being unmeritorious.’

The panel, agreed with the lower tribunal that the appellant had no lawful candidate in the March 9, 2019 governorship election in Taraba state.

The court noted that by virtue of the disqualification of APC  candidate in the last governorship, Abubakar Danladi, by the Jalingo division of the Federal High Court on March 6, 2019, the APC has no candidate to challenge governor Ishaku’s victory.

Some of the residents of Jalingo who spoke to Blueprint advised the opposition party, APC to accept the court judgement and join hands with governor Ishaku to move the state forward.
