Updated: Kogi APC suspends deputy governor

The All Progressive Congress (APC) Kogi state chapter has suspended the Deputy Governor Elder Simon Achuba from the party for anti party activities before, during and after the 2019 general elections.

Also, the party based the suspension on some actions the deputy governor took that constitute embarrassment to APC family in Kogi state.
The state APC chairman, Hon Abdullahi Bello, who disclosed this in Lokoja Thursday, said the suspension was sequel to several petitions received from stakeholders in Iyano ward of Ibaji local government area where the Elder Achuba hails from.

According to the chairman, the petitions large alleged that the deputy governor had discretely and openly worked for the candidates of the opposition parties during the presidential, national and state assembly elections in the state.

Further, Bello claimed that the activities of Achuba during the last elections were against the candidates of the All Progressives Party on whose platform he (Achuba) holds the exalted position of the deputy governor of the state.
The chairman also adduced the report of the APC disciplinary committees constituted by the Iyano ward and Ibaji local government to probe the crises in the area which allegedly indicted the deputy governor.

Based on the indictment, the committees, according to him, had recommended his suspension and subsequent expulsion, if he fails to show any remorse.

Bello said the APC State Working Committee after deliberating on the recommendations resolved to uphold Elder Simon Achuba’s suspension pending when he would respond to the query the party would serve him.
“As we are all aware, the All Progressives Congress does not condone acts of indiscipline, indiscretion, and anti-party activities from any party member, no matter how highly placed.

“His series of reckless, damaging and unsubstantiated allegations against government of Kogi state were actions that constitute serious violation of Article 21 A(ii), (v) and (vii) of the APC constitution, which amounted to acts of disloyalty and embarrassment to the party,” Bello stressed.

He added that the decision of the State Working Committee will be communicated to the APC National Working Committee in due course.
