Updated: Like his predecessor, another Obiano’s loyalist emerges Anambra assembly Speaker

Anambra State House of Assembly was on Wednesday, inaugurated with Honourable Uche Okafor of Ayamelum constituency and Honourable Paschal Agbodike of Ihiala II emerging as Speaker and deputy Speaker of the 7tn Assembly. Both emerged unopposed.

Okafor, a two term member and son of a former member of old Anambra State House of Assembly, was nominated by Hon. Edward Ibuzo of Onitsha North I and Hon. Lawrence Ezeudu of Dunukofia constituency.

Like Rt. Hon. Rita Maduagwu, immediate past Speaker, Okafor who is also from same senatorial zone with governor Willy Obiano is reportedly loyal to the incumbent state chief executive.

Okafor, alongside his deputy and few others reportedly acted on the instructions of governor Obiano and continiously backed Maduagwu who was impeached and was later reinstated after pressure by the executive arm of the government.

Agbodike, on his part, was nominated by Hon. Timothy Ifedioranma of Njikoka I and seconded by Hon. Emeka Aforka of Orumba north.

As the time Maduagwu was impeached, both Okafor and Agbodike were suspended for refusing to support the rest to impeach the former Speaker.

They have been inaugurated by the Clerk of the House, Mr Pius Udoh, who further transferred power to them to inaugurate the members-elect of the 7th Assembly.

Blueprint reports that inauguration of new members were on as at press time.
