Updated: Man City inch back to the top again at EPL

A poked finish from Sergio Aguero, that was nearly blocked on the line, was enough to help champions Manchester City move back to the top of the Premier League.

Manchester City needed a win to go back to the summit after Liverpool’s 5-0 win over Huddersfield on Friday night, while Burnley were already assured of staying up, so Liverpool fan Sean Dyche had more to play for than his players might have.

It was a frustrating first half for City, who were sloppy in possession and failed to create much, with the best chances falling to Bernardo Silva and Sergio Aguero, to no end.

In the second half, Guardiola’s half-time team talk did the trick, with City starting reinvigorated, and just after the hour mark Aguero’s strike was shown to have crossed the line by inches, putting them ahead to their great relief. It was awarded as a goal with the Premier League confirming it was over the line by a mere 29.51mm

At that point, City seemed content to keep the ball away from their opponents and were happy to take their time after an exhausting season.

City will wait for Liverpool’s next Premier League game against Newcastle on Saturday, before hosting Leicester City on Monday night. But for now, they are top.
