Updated: Ministers to commence work on 2020 budget – SGF

The newly sworn-in ministers are to commence work on the 2020 budget estimates immediately, Secretary to the Government of the Federation Mr Boss Mustapha, said on Wednesday.

Speaking shortly after he was sworn-in by President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House innAbuja, the SGF said the executive arm of government made a commitment to submit the budget proposal to the National Assembly when the lawmakers return from a recess in September. 

“You are expected to familiarise yourselves with the permanent secretaries of various ministries and within this period, set out to work particularly on the budget, and taking cognizance of the fact that we have assured the National Assembly that we are sending the budget immediately they return from the recess,’’ he said.

The SGF said the ministers are also expected to sign the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) form and retune to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation within two weeks. 

“We will send out the ministerial mandate for you to review within two weeks with the permanent secretaries assigned to your ministries and attach your signatures and return for the purposes of safe keep and also monitoring and co-ordination,” he said.

The federal government said it was determined to return the country’s budget circle from January to December of every year hence the need for the early preparations for the 2020 budget.

The 43 ministers were sworn-in Wednesday by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
