Nasarawa Amazon FC of Lafia on Sunday defeated defending champions, Rivers Angel FC of Port Harcourt 5-4 on penalties to win the 2019 Aiteo Women Cup final.

The match at the mainbowl of Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna ended goalless after 90 minutes and went straight into penalties. The Nasarawa girls scored all their five goals but the Rivers side, who commenced the spot kick, had their fourth kick saved by the Nasarawa Amazons goalkeeper.

The exciting match pitched a youthful Amazons, hungry for their first taste in the FA Cup, against an experienced Rivers side that have won the trophy seven times in the last eight years.

The Amazons dominated the midfield from the off playing through the right wing and occasionally foraying through the middle but the experienced Riverians, under the guidance of coach Edwin Okon, thwarted all their efforts, while making dangerous incursions into their opponents’ box.

Despite the exciting midfield movements, the attack of both sides could not make any difference thus the game ended in a stalemate and penalty had to be used to decide a winner.
