Updated: NFF announces contract extension with Rohr

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and Super Eagles handler Gernot Rohr have finally agreed a two and half year contract extension.

Confirming the latest development via his Twitter handle, NFF President Amaju Pinnick said, “I’m happy to announce that the NFF and Coach Gernot Rohr have concluded all contractual discussions and he will stay on as Coach of the Super Eagles for the next two and half years.

“ We have always had confidence in his abilities and we are confident that the national team can only go higher from here.” Pinnick tweeted on Tuesday

The Franco-German-born gaffer took charge of the Super Eagles in 2016 and has made appreciable impact  with the squad.

Rohr led Eagles to a third-place finish at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations championship where they won bronze medal.

However, the relationship between the two parties went sour after AFCON in Egypt last summer.

Pinnick stated, “We can now focus on qualifying for the World Cup and winning the Nations Cup. In truth, these are sacrosanct and Coach Rohr is aware of these conditions. “Like the Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports Development has rightly noted; we are uncompromising in these goals.  “The board of the Federation and I are totally in agreement with the minister on the goals for the team and it is unwavering” he concluded
