Updated: Perm Sec, Buratai decorate Adeosun, Biu with new ranks

The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Defence, Mrs Nuratu Batagarawa and the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, have decorated newly promoted Chief of Training and Operations, Lt.-Gen. Lamidi Adeosun, Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division and Commander Sector 2 Operation LAFIYA DOLE, Maj.-Gen. Bulama Biu and Capt. Abubakar Danjibrin of 211 Demonstration Battalion, Bauchi, with their new ranks.

The officers were decorated at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, Kaduna State.

President Muhammadu Buhari had on Tuesday approved the accelerated promotion of the officers on the recommendation of the Chief of Army Staff.

According to a statement by the Army spokesperson Col Sagir Musa on Wednesday the recommendation and the promotion of the senior officers was in recognition of their achievements in the fight against insurgency in the northeast.

The Permanent Secretary at decoration ceremony said the promotion of the new officers was another remarkable milestone in their carrier as well as reward for their loyalty, commitment and dedication to service.

She commended Lt. Gen. Adeosun for the achievements in the fight against insurgency in the north-east,  adding that he (Adeosun) laid the foundation for recent feet achieved by the army. 

“Your achievements in the fight against insurgency cannot be forgotten in a hurry; Biu has also made remarkable contribution to the successes of the Operation Lafiya Dole since he assumed the headship,” she said.

She commended the Chief of Army Staff for his leadership in recommending the officers for promotion and his readiness to accommodate an officer of equal rank with him.

She also commended President Buhari for approving the promotion of the officers.

Batagarawa while congratulating the newly promoted officers, however, urged the military to do all it can to defeat all forms of insurgency in the country.

Lt. Gen. Adeosun, thanked the Chief of Army Staff for recommending him for the promotion.

He said he was privileged to be mentored by good hands like the Chief of Army Staff.

He also thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for counting him fit for promotion to the rank.

Lt. Gen. Adeosun pledged his commitment to ensuring that the country is safe from all forms of terrorism and insurgency.
