Updated: Police nab 13 for kidnapping Magajin Daura

The Nigeria Police have arrested 13 suspects in connection with the kidnapping of Magajin Garin Daura, Alhaji Musa Umar Uba.

The District head was rescued by operatives of the IGP Intelligence Response Team led by DCP Abba Kyari on July 2, 2019, after 60 days in the custody of his kidnappers.

Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), DCP Frank Mba, made the disclosure while parading the suspects alongside 27 suspects arrested for kidnapping, armed robbery, cattle rustling, murder, attempted murder, as well as unlawful possession of arms, Monday, at the SARS Headquarters in Abuja.

Mba, who stated that members of the gang that kidnapped the traditional ruler at his residence in Daura on May 1, were found to be from different states and diverse cultural background, noted that the crime was powered essentially by local criminals and their external collaborators.

According to him, “From our analysis, we discovered that the suspects are composed of persons from different states and backgrounds. They are males with the average age of 30. The oldest is 46 while the youngest is 20. The youngest played the key role in the whole operation.

“We discovered that there are external collaborators because one of them is from Niger Republic. The gangs are also powered by local criminals and operators because the plan was orchestrated by someone from Katsina state.”

He said that four out of the 13 gang members are from Daura, while eight are from different states in the northern part of the country, just as one other is from Niger Republic.

The spokesperson further stated that two gang members was found to have been trained in Libya on gun handling, how to disarm members of the police and other security agents as well as terrorism related trainings.

He named the suspects as: Aminu Saleh, Yusuf Dahiru, Abdullahi Mohammed, Bilal Yusuf, Sarfilu Abdu, Dahiru Musa, Tukur Bukar, Ibrahim Ibrahim, Mohammed Saidu, Abubakar Adamu, Mustapha Zakariyya, Ibrahim Mohammed and Bako Mustapha.

The suspects are also said to be responsible for kidnapping and killing of expatriates, who owned and worked at Mothercat Construction Companies in Kano and Kaduna states.

Mba said four Ak47 rifles with serial numbers; NO:24389, NO:60733, NO:23197, NO:26858; two berretta pistols; five AK47 magazines; 145 live ammunitions; four dark eyeglasses; masks; documents; handsets; three-hand grenade of military calibre; and one police berretta was recovered from the suspects.

Chemicals used for detonating explosives, laptops with video clips of how explosives are made and other manuals of how other dangerous weapons are made were also recovered from the gang members arrested at Daura, Katsina, and Kano states respectively.

Speaking to journalists, three members of the gang confessed to kidnapping the traditional ruler stating that they had demanded $30million ransom for his release, however, no ransom was paid to them.
