Updated: Senate probes alleged assault on woman by Adamawa Senator


Senate has set up a seven- man Ad-hoc committee to thoroughly investigate alleged physically assault Senator Ishaku Abo  ( PDP Adamawa North), inflicted on at adult toys shop in Abuja about two months ago.

The alleged incident had been trending on social media within the last 24 hours which the Senate felt , is injurious to its image and the entire 108 senators .

Senate’s resolution to probe the alleged violent conduct of one of its members , was sequel to a motion moved to that effect by Senator Uba Sani ( APC Kaduna Central).

Uba Sani who came through orders 14 and 15 of the Senate Standing rules , argued that the incident must be investigated and appropriate action taken if the Senator involved was found guilty.

According to him , between Tuesday morning and Wednesday when he drew the attention of the Senate to it, not less than 111 calls had been made to his lines by concerned Nigerians in and outside the country .

“To save the image of the Senate and the Senators, embarrassing allegation against one of us must be investigated and sanctions applied where necessary,” he said.

Senator Bamudele Opeyemi ( APC Ekiti Central) and the Senate Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe ( PDP Abia South), also made similar submissions which made the Senate Leader, Yahaya Abdullahi ( APC Kebbi North), to call for an Ad- hoc committee.

Consequently , the President of the Senate , Senator Ahmad Lawan in his ruling, set up a seven – man committee to carry out thorough investigation into the incident and report back within two weeks.

The committee is to be headed by Senator Sam Egwu ( PDP Ebonyi North),  Oluremi Tinubu ( APC Lagos Central) and Mathew Urhoghide ( PDP Edo South).

Others are , Dauda  Jika ( APC Bauchi Central), Danladi Sankara ( APC Jigawa North East), Stella Oduah ( PDP Anambra North) and Mohammed Sani ( APC Niger East ).
