Updated: Taraba Assembly gets new Speaker 

Taraba state House of Assembly, Monday, elected member representing Lau state constituency, Mr Joseph Albasu  Kunini, as the new Speaker of the House.

The election of Kunini followed the resignation of the former Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abel Petet Diah, and his deputy, Mr. Charles Maijankai.

The House also elected the member representing Bali II Constituency, Hamman Adama Abdullah, as the new deputy speaker of the House.

Kunini was nominated by the member representing Zing, John Bonzena, and seconded by the member representing Gembu Constituency, David Jedua

Kimini’s election was unanimous with all the sixteen present out of the twenty-four members that constitute the House.

After taking oath of office, the speaker opened the floor for the nomination of deputy speaker and Alh Bashir Muhammad made the nomination of Abdulahi who represents Bali 2 state constituency, and he was also elected unanimously since there was no contrary nomination.

In his acceptance speech, Kunini said he was honored to have been found worthy in the house and pledged to be just and equitable.

“This is a house of justice and equity. Taraba should be greater that any individual and we must work hard to take the state to greater heights. I will work to champion this,” he said.
