Uwua cautions NNL refs

Technical adviser, Niger Tornadoes Football Club of Minna, Godwin Koko Uwua, has called on referees to support the growth of football by allowing free flow of the game.

He said in an interview after his side lost to Plateau United of Jos at the Rwang Pam Stadium, Jos, on Saturday.
Uwua said that the 26-minute scored off the head of Plateau’s Philip Azonto was a controversial one, as Tornadoes’ goalkeeper, Aliko Mustapha, was impeded during the process and was not protected by the referee.

‘‘I have been in this system for the past 30 years. I am in NNL to help the younger ones. If we must develop the game, we should allow the better side to win,’’ he said.

He rated Tornadoes performance above Plateau United, saying that his side should have won the tie.
According to him anyone who watched the game would see that his boys were more purposeful and gave a good account of themselves.

He said that he has put the match behind and is concentrating on his next match to be played in Minna, adding that the team cannot afford to be throwing away scoring chances.
