In Imo, Uzodinma orders payment of pensions

Governor of Imo State Hope Uzodinma has ordered that pensions of retired civil servants in the state for the month of March, 2020  be paid without further delay.

The govermor, who admitted that the payment had been delayed, said that the delay was necessary to enable government sort out the actual total bill of pensions instead of paying a bloated bill.

He made it clear that with the new arrangement, only those entitled for payment would be paid while ‘ghost pensioners’ would be shown the way out.

He seized the opportunity to condemn the use of consultants for the verification of pensions as adopted by the immediate past government of Emeka Ihedioha, saying that the method was used to siphon state funds.

He added that through the exercise more than N300 million had been saved.

Meanwhile, Governor Uzodinma has approved the recommendation of the Auditor-General for the Local Governments to recover over N19 billion allegedly misused by the Ihedioha administration.
