Valedictory session: Anambra 6th assembly passes over 90 bills, motions



The Anambra State House of Assembly has said it passed not less than 90 bills, motions and resolutions at the just concluded 6th Assembly. 
Speaker of the 6th Assembly, Rt. Hon. Rita Maduagwu, who disclosed this in her valedictory speech on Tuesday, announced some of the bills passed to include Security /Vigilant Bill, Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme bill.


Others were Anambra State Polytechnic Mgbakwu Establishment bill, Anambra State Burial/Funeral Control Bill, Anambra State Sickle Cell Control and Eradication bill, House of Anambra Commission bill.
According to Maduagwu, “the sixth Assembly was first in history to produce the Chairman of the South East Conference of Speakers in Nigeria, an office which I occupied with every sense of responsibility by the grace of God. I ensured good leadership in Igbo land and we achieved a lot for the South East zone especially in harmonising the standing House Rule for South-Eastern State Assemblies.


“I must say that the sixth Assembly has laid a solid foundation which the seventh Assembly can build upon. We have shown character, commitment and leadership which I urge the incoming seventh Assembly to emulate. “
Blueprint reports that the 6th Assembly, comprising 30 legislators, was inaugurated on 12 June, 2015 with six females and 24 males, including three members of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and 27 All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).
Among them were two third timers, 11 second timers and 17 new comers.

However, two first timers, Hon. Francis Mmegbuanaeze and Hon. Patrick Aniunoh of Idemili North and Onitsha South I died in 2017 and 2019 respectively.
Similarly, 2 (a male and a female) would be returning for third term in 7th Assembly to be inaugurated on Wednesday June 12, just as 10 are returning for second term.


Speaking at their last session, some of the old members not returning for the 7th Assembly, Hon. Hartford Oseke, Deputy Speaker; Hon. Jideofor Okoye, Majority Leader; assured of their support to new members, even as new members returning for second term, Hon. Nnamdi Okafor and Hon. Pete Ibida, said they would not fail to contact the 6th Assembly members whenever the need arises.
