Varsity don urges FG to restructure security apparatus

Professor Adoyi Onoja of the department of history in Nasarawa State University, Keffi, has called on the federal government to restructure the nation’s security apparatus and come out with new strategies that would ensure the protection  of life and property of citizens, Onoja made this appeal at the 20th inaugural lecture series organised by the university.

Professor Onoja who delivered his inaugural lecture on the topic, “Security: framing middlebelt of Nigeria perspective” stressed that the fundamental objective of the government is to provide and define the concept of security.

He disclosed that the military who are in centre of the nation’s security could not get the philosophy of security in the right perspective. The professor of History also blamed the government for not creating new policies on security.

He further maintained that if government fails to address the security challenges in the country they would have failed in the task of providing adequate security and welfare for the people. He said there is no scholar in the area of security in Nigeria.

In his welcome address, the vice chancellor of the university, professor Suleiman Bala Muhammed described professor Onoja as a historian of repute, an academic par excellence and erudite scholar who always sacrifices himself for the purpose of education and for colleagues.

He said inaugural lecture is a university culture which is designed for lecturers to defend their professorial titles. Bala also expressed gratitude to the organising committee for putting adequate mechanism in making the event successful.

He further disclosed that the inaugural lecture marked the first of its kind since he assumed the office of the vice chancellor and the concluding part of second volume of the university series.
