VC advocates 3 % oil income for primary education, 5 % for agriculture

Vice chancellor of Al- Alhikmah university, Ilorin, Professor Taofiq Ibrahim, Tuesday advocated for the  dedication of five per cent of Nigeria’s oil and gas income to development of  agriculture sector.

He also advocated for three per cent of the country’s oil and gas income for the development of primary education in Nigeria.

Ibrahim stated this in his pre- convocation press briefing ahead of the institution’s 9th convocation where he said 896 will be graduating with first degrees, post graduate and diploma degrees.

He said dedicating five per cent of the country’s oil and gas income to agriculture development will make the country attain the ranking of one of the top most economies of the world and provide jobs for the timing population of the youths.

“I want to advocate purposeful dedication of 5  per cent of Oil and Gas income to Agriculture development annually in,  it will make us overcome youths unemployment in the shortest time and embale us attain the trajectory of emerging as one of the topmost economics,” he said.

The VC said the institution under his administration has also acquired 70 hectares of land for agriculture development.

On the forthcoming convocation of the institution scheduled for Saturday December 14, 2019, he said a total of 896 graduates out of which 27 of them with first class honours would be awarded first class degrees, post graduates and diploma certificates.

Giving the breakdown, he said 824 would bag first degrees, 59 with post graduates degrees and 13 with diploma certificates.
