VC harps on entrepreneurship education to boost economy

The Vice-Chancellor, Redeemer University, Ede in Osun state, Professor Debo Adeyewa, has called on the government at all levels to create conducive environment for the development of entrepreneurship education to boost economic growth of the country. This was as he reiterated that the country was blessed with talented people and professionals, who were ready to work for the development of the country, but incapacitated by environment that made it difficult for them to succeed as entrepreneurs. Adeyewa disclosed this during the 4th inaugural lecture series of the university delivered by Profesor Adepoju Adeleke, a don at the university.
In the theme of the lecture is: “Development by Choice and Prime in Performance: Entrepreneurship for Industrialisation”, the inaugural lecturer, however, stressed the need to revisit the 6-3-3-4 system of education, especially the aspect that emphasized apprenticeship and vocational skill acquisition and training. “As a way to enhance the promotion of entrepreneurship activities in the country, the government should introduce and entrench into national event strategies the National Entrepreneurship Week (NEW), such as lecture and other activities that could be organised to support and increase the awareness for entrepreneurship development at all levels.”
The don, who insisted that entrepreneurial development remained the only panacea to the youth unemployment, lamented: “Youth unemployment is one of the challenges currently facing the country because it has the most broad-based devastating, traumatic impact, and above all it is a societal ill facing the country.” Adeleke, a Professor of Business Administration at the Department of Economics and Business Studies, College of Management and Social Science, also advocated persistent pursuit of well-coordinated programme of small-scale industrial development that could yield significant economic and technological pay off s for a nation. Again, the Vice-Chancellor added that the university had contributed significantly to the development of entrepreneurship in country that have changed and brought positive growth the society, saying the institution would not rest on its oars until more entrepreneurial programmes are provided and sustained.
