The Director of Administration and Human Resources, Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Dr Aminu Gusau, has identified vibrant and efficient rail system as a path to maximum economic growth and development.
He said this yesterday while addressing newly recruited workers receiving training at the NRC Training School, Zaria, Kaduna state.
Gusau pointed out that no country globally could achieve economic growth without realising a vibrant rail system.
He said: “It is believed that you cannot achieve maximum economic development in any country without understanding and realising the importance of a vibrant and effective rail system.
“This is what the present administration understands and that’s why the minister and the federal government are working hard to transform the sector. And to be very honest with you, in my capacity as the Director of Administration and Human Resources, what is happening in the rail sector can neither be quantified.
“The federal government is actually doing a lot to realise the rail sector transformation dream, I must therefore appreciate the Minister of Transport, Chief Rotimi Amaechi, for his active role in that direction.”
The administrator said the training was aimed at giving the trainees both technical and general knowledge of what the railways was all about.
“We brought you here teach you about professionalism, to make you understand the corporate culture of the corporation and to acquaint you with skills on the need to satisfy your customers.
“We are trying to achieve maximum productivity in terms of service that will lead to an elevated IGR which will eventually develop our economy,
“You can only do something you understand; you cannot do something you do not know and that’s why we are giving them the best training you can think of. This will enable them to become better professionals to be able to achieve that quest for the federal government towards realising a vibrant and efficient rail system in Nigeria.”
Gusau said the standard gauge rail system project was happening very fast, and gave the assurance that “the Itakpe-Warri would take-off between June and July, this year.”
