Visually impaired man declares for Kogi Reps’ seat

A visually impaired man, Danjuma Atta, has declared interest for Adavi/ Okehi Federal Constituency of Kogi state under the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC). The House of Representatives aspirant and Abuja-based business tycoon, who hails from Adavi local government area of the state, lost his two eyes at the age of 12 during his secondary school days at Abdulazeez Memorial College, Okene but later proceeded to the School for the Handicapped in Minna, Niger state after the mishap.
Speaking with Blueprint in Abuja yesterday, Danjuma said he is gunning for the House of Representatives seat to bring the desired change which has eluded his constituents since the nascent democracy. In his words: “Our constituency has long produced able-bodied people over the years but they could not deliver because they lack foresight, which only those with great mind and vision possess.”
The aspirant said he is in the category of people with great foresight and great mind in view of what he called his “ability in disability,” noting that he has armed himself with the leadership quality required to bring positive change to bear if elected.
Atta, therefore, promised to offer responsive representation to the people of Okehi/Adavi constituency, having attained enviable heights in his chosen career and business in spite of physical disability. Among other things, the aspirant plans to initiate N100 million trust fund within 100 days if elected; to be used to offer scholarship to indigent students and youth, and issuing noninterest loans to traders, artisans and farmers to attain self-reliance.
He also pledged to use part of the trust to offer medical equipment and drugs to healthcare centres in the constituency. Danjuma Atta, who started business at the age of 13, has the Danjuma Eye Foundation, an NGO with office in Garki, Abuja, and has been engaged in philanthropy, social and health services to the people over the years.
