VSF to distribute farming inputs worth 600m to victims of insurgency

Victim Support Fund (VSF)   has begun distribution of farming inputs worth N600 million to 4,000 households affected by insurgency in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states

Speaking during the commencement of the distribution at Garubula village of Biu local government area of Borno state on Thursday ,Director VSF Prof Sunday Ocheche  said the inputs were rice ,maize, beans seeds, herbicides, fertilizers and power tillers.

Prof.  Ocheche also said 2,000 households will benefit in Borno and the remaining 2,000 in Adamawa and Yobe states and each household is expected to cultivate one hectare of land.

He said Agriculture is the main stay of livelihoods urging the beneficiaries to use the item given to them not to sale it which in turn improve their standard of living.

He said they have engaged Community based organizations to monitor the distribution of the items to ensure it reach the target groups as well as well as engaged agriculture extension workers who will be visiting the farms farmers ,giving them technical advice.

Prof Ocheche said at the end of the farming season they will organize an agricultural show and the community that come first would be rewarded.

In his speech Gen Theopilus Danjuma (RTD) chairman VSF  who was represented by Mrs Gloria Shoda, National President National Council for Women Society, said they intervened in so many  places affected by insurgency.

He urged the beneficiaries to utilize the items for the purpose meant for.

Also speaking, Governor Kashim Shetima of Borno state who was  represented by chairman Biu local government council Alhaji Usman Daka  said the contribution of humanitarian organizations cannot be under estimated because it has touched almost all facets of human survival and development.
