WAEC releases 131, 223 results, withholds 14,756

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the results of 131,233 out of the 133,223 private candidates who sat for 2017 examination across the country.
It similarly withheld 14,756 results due to exam malpractices and another 1,738 due to error during registration and in the conduct of the examinations.
Announcing the results yesterday in Katsina, Head of the Nigeria National office of the Council, Mr. Olu I. Adenipeku at a press conference, said a total of 135,945 candidates registered for WAEC in 2017 but only 133,223 sat for the examinations.
He said 67,279 who sat for the exams were male, while 65,944 of them were female, representing 50.50 per cent and 49.50 per cent respectively.
According to him, 131,485 candidates that wrote the examination, representing 98.70 per cent had their results fully processed and released, while 1,738 candidates, representing 1.30 per cent had a few of their subjects still being processed due to errors traceable to candidates in the course of writing the examinations.
Adenipeku said the errors were being corrected by the Council to enable the affected candidates get their results fully processed and subsequently released.
He said 111,763 of the total number of candidates that sat for the examinations obtained credits above in two subjects; 98,506 got credits and above in 3 subjects, explaining that 83,256 of the candidates, representing 62.49 per cent scored credits and above in 4 subjects; 65,483 of the candidates got home with 5 credits while 46, representing 35.14 per cent of them obtained 6 credits.
According to him, those who obtained credits in English Language and General Mathematics were 34,664, representing 26.01per cent, saying all of them got home with 5 credits and above in five subjects.
He said the results of 14,756 candidates were being withheld in connection with various reported cases of examination malpractice.
Adenipeku said all candidates were free from today to check the web site of the Council for their results.
