Wafu Cup: Madu’s eyes still on trophy after conquering Ghana, sure of goals against Cote d’Ivoire in final

After beating Ghana to soar into final clash of the ongoing West African Football Union (WAFU) Cup, Super Falcons assistant Coach Maureen Madu has declared that her team are still focused on winning the trophy.

The Nigerian senior Women team defeated arch rivals Ghana 4-2 on penalties after full time ended goalless.

And despite the inability of free-scoring Super Falcons side to find the net before shoot-out, Madu who spoke to Blueprint shortly after the tease-filled encounter in Cote d’Ivoire, said: “We are so happy that the players exhibited the spirit of never-so-die. We are happy we won this time because last year they won us through same penalty. Some will say its revenge. They really fought so hard. We told our players to go all out and fight and do the Nation proud.”

Ahead of Saturday’s final with host, Cote d’Ivoire, Madu vowed: “We had more chances than Ghanians, but, sometimes, football is like that. Sometimes attackers become more nervous and try to score by all means to please the coaches and the crowd.

“In that case they make some mistake, but we are promising Nigerians, on behalf of our attackers, they will score in the final.”

Super Falcons had beaten all team en route the final with 16-0 demolition of Niger, the heaviest defeat handed down by any team against opponent in the tournament.
