The National Defence College, Abuja has lauded Imo state government for the ongoing transformation in the state zoo, saying the state Zoological Garden and Wildlife Park will soon meet international standard.
Leader of a high powered delegation from NDC Course 28, Brig. Alade Adedigba, made the commendation on Thursday while leading senior military officials on a visit to the Zoological Garden and Wildlife Park on a course tour.
He expressed satisfaction with the ongoing transformation in the zoo, adding that the facility if well harnessed will boost the state’s IGR as well as tourism.
Adedigba said the visit was part of a routine NDC course known as “National Defence Course College 28” where senior military officials go round different states on facility tour.
The team leader said the tour would enhance research as well as helped in national development.
He said some of the participants of the study tour were drawn from India and Rwanda.
He affirmed the readiness of NDC in protecting the integrity of the nation, while urging Imo government to remain firm in its bid to develop the state.
Earlier in his remark, the General Manager of Imo zoo and wildlife park, Mr Francis Abioye, said natural ecosystem was going into extinction due to civilisation and population.
Abioye noted that Nigerians were in the habit of felling forest trees, which he attributed to the major course of global warming and climate change.
He said, “We complain of climate change every day but our activities contribute to both climate change and global warming.
“We must stop tree felling and love nature because that is what will preserve our society and make our natural heritage not to go into extinction,” he said.
He however, commended NDC for visiting Imo and for also proffering solutions to some of its challenges. (NAN)
