Nasarawa state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mr. Yunana Iliya,     has cautioned Mr. Lai Mohammed, the  Publicity Secretary of the All Progressive Congress (APC) to exercise restraint over his statement on the ongoing impeachment of Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura.

Iliya, in a statement made available newsmen on Wednesday in Lafia, said it was irresponsible of Lai Mohammed to point fingers at the presidency and the PDP of inducing the state lawmakers to impeach Governor Al-Makura while he Al-Makura has continued to commit impeachable offences.
Iliya said that the APC publicity secretary was fond of making unguided utterances and statements capable of undermining the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Iliya said Lai’s statement was based on sentiments without taking recourse to the provision of section 188 of the Nigerian constitution.
He explained that impeachment was a constitutional matter and should be devoid of politics, adding that Lai Mohammed chose to ignore the fundamental issues raised in the impeachment notice, which bothered on corruption and extra budgetary expenses.
“If truly Governor Umaru Al-Makura is not guilty of those offences raised in the impeachment notice, the constitution should be followed to the latter in order for him to be exonerated,” he said.
He added that APC should have sanctioned Governor Al-Makura for distabilising the party in the state as it had suffered losses under his watch.

“When Governor Al-Makura came on board, APC had Three House of Representatives members and One Senator, but now, reverse is the case as APC has only one House of Representatives member.
“So we wonder what value Al-Makura has added to the party that they have to go extra mile out of the Constitution to defend him after disintegrating the party,” Iliya said.
