Jigawa: We didn’t shoot suspect – NDLEA

The Jigawa Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has denied a report that its personnel shoot a suspect while raiding a drug addict’s hideout in Kazaure local government area of the state.

This denial was made by the NDLEA Commandant in the state Josephine Obi over the weekend in Dutse.

A 25-year-old Abubakar Lawan of Shaiskawa village in Kazaure local government area died on April 3, after jumping into a dam in Kazaure town.

The deceased fell into the dam and drowned while trying to escape beinf arrestend from personnel of NDLEA who raided the area suspected to be hideout for drug peddlers.

As a result of the death of the suspect, some angry youth descended on the officers and set their office ablaze.

The commandant said “I was really sad to read a report by some media out fits that our personnel shot the suspect while attempting to escape arrest during a raid in Kazaure LGA”.

“Our officers didn’t fire even one bullet throughout the operation. In fact, one of the officers was attacked and nearly killed despite holding a rifle”.
