We don’t breed terrorists, cultists – Cross River premiere private varsity

The Cross River state premiere private university, Arthur Jarvis, has denied report it was breeding terrorists and cultiats, said to be levelled against it by a mother to a 100 level student of the institution and published on an online news medium.

Chancellor of the university, Sir Arthur Jarvis Archibong, described the allegation as ‘spurious, false and malicious’ aimed at tarnishing the image of the institution and reputation of staff.

In a press conference on Calabar, Tuesday, the Chancellor explained that Dr Mrs Lilian Ekanem, mother to the said student, had gone to press to allege that her daughter was assaulted by fellow students and that Mrs Ekanem had, in the process, called the institution unprintable names.

Sir Archibong said a case of assault was actually recorded in the female hostel of the university involving about five students, one of who was accused of stealing but that the authorities had stepped in to handle the issue only for Mrs Ekanem to go to press and the police.

He said Mrs Ekanem used “several disparaging and libelous information knowing same to be false against Arthur Javis University. This was published to the whole world to infer that Arthur Javis University is a terrorist institution breeding gangster, aided an alleged attack, robbery and battery” of the said student.

“The aforesaid malicious and false publication on the social media became trendy and attracted a lot of negative comments from social media participants who now believe that Arthur Jarvis University is a breeding place for gangstarism, cultism and other related activities and whose students are prone to violence, physical attack, assault and bullying of other students.

“In the face of this social media trial, in order to limit and control the damage already suffered by the University, the University published a disclaimer while attempting to reassure the general public of the integrity of the Institution.

“Arthur Javis University is not and does not represent any of the derogatory and defamatory statement. The University has zero tolerance cultism, gangsterism, terrorism and other forms vices,” he submitted.

But, in a telephone chat, Mrs Ekanem said, “no one born of a woman would stop the course of Justice from taking its course.”

She denied allegation that she accused the university of breeding terrorists.
