We have nothing to do with APDA, SDP denies rumored merger

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has denied a media report that its Ondo state chapter has been been merged with Advance Peoples Democratic Alliance (APDA), saying a state chapter or state official lacks power to do so.

The opposition party was reacting to the media report that its suspended Secretary in Ondo state, Dele Ogunbameru, led some members of the party to fuse with APDA.

A statement signed in Abuja Thursday, by SDP’s  National Publicity Secretary Alfa Mohammed, said “there is no iota of truth in the statement.

“The truth of the matter is that Mr. Dele has been having a running battle with his state exco since the last November Governorship election in Ondo which later culminated in his suspension from the party and his consequent defection to APDA instead of defending himself before a disciplinary committee.

“Similarly, there was no any fusion arrangement with APDA as every sensible political observer knows that a state secretary can not fuse one party with another.

“Besides, it lacks logic to accept that SDP, one of the six political parties with elective presence in various tiers of government in Nigeria will go ahead and fuse into a newly registered political party which does not even have a Councillor seat yet but still struggling around for membership while leadership and ownership has remained enmeshed in controversy and litigation as confirm by Chief Raymond Dokpesi, a PDP chieftain who was one of it’s founders.”

The statement said the Ondo state chapter chairman and former member of the House of Representatives, Chief Korede Duyile has assured that “there is no cause for alarm  as the party leadership has been receiving solidarity messages from numerous members and stakeholders within and outside the state in addition to a vote of confidence by the stakeholders.”
