We ‘ll reclaim our stolen mandate in court- Bayelsa PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa state has said that their major opponent during the just concluded 2019 general elections was the Nigerian Military and not the All Progressives Congress (APC).

State chairman of the PDP Mr. Moses Cleopas made the allegation while briefing newsmen in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital, on the outcomes of the elections.

In the state assembly election results as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the PDP won 17 seats while the APC won four with three more seats pending for a rerun.

However, the PDP chairman believes that it won all the24 seats of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly but the military allegedly aided the opposition APC to forcefully claim 4 constituencies.

But in a swift reaction, the APC in a state has waved aside the claims by the ruling party, describing the PDP and its members as greedy, adding that it had already concluded plans to challenge the general outcome of the polls in court.

A statement by the state publicity secretary of the party Mr Doifie Buokoribo, stated that it was uncalled-for and unthinkable for the PDP to continue to cry foul having won 17 out of 24 seats while three seats were still pending.

Meanwhile Cleopas hinted that as a law abiding party, the PDP would participate in the rerun elections in Brass constituency 1, Southern Ijaw constituency 4, and Ogbia constituency 11 of the state Assembly scheduled to hold on March 23.

He further disclosed that his party would challenge all the seats it lose to the APC in court both in the presidential and national assembly elections as well as the state assembly polls.

The PDP chairman said: “As we have always said, the PDP did not lose any of those elections that were conducted on our ground. In the presidential and national assembly elections, the PDP won. In the state assembly election, we also won.

“In the Bayelsa East Senatorial District election, our candidate, Izagara won. In Bassambiri, all the seven wards, materials and INEC officials were taken hostage by APC thugs and the military. We informed INEC but at the end of the day, results came out from the same place. It’s a stolen mandate and we are going to legitimately recover all.”
