We ‘ll root out remnants of Boko Haram -Theatre commander

The Nigerian Army has reiterated its determination to wipe out the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists where ever their locations may be in the North-east region and Nigeria at large.

Theatre commander Operation Lafiya Dole,Major Gen.Benson Akinrolunyo, made the declaration Saturday during the2018  Nigeria Army Social Activity (NASA) which was  held at  Maimalari Cantonment ,Maiduguri.

He also commended the efforts of the gallant soldiers for successfully bringing to an end, the dreaded activities of Boki Haram insurgents in the North-east while appreciating the efforts of other organisations for the sacrifices they rendered in the joint counter insurgency operations.

Earlier in his welcome address at the occasion, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division Maiduguri, Brigadier General Abdulmalik Bulama Biu, said NASA serves as a unique avenue for the military to interact and appraise their performance with a view to creating room for improvement and reward successes achieved where necessary.

He added that the officers and soldiers deserve to celebrate  in the theatre of operation, thus describing NASA as apt and timely especially now that  the military has completely wiped out Boko Haram elements in the north east,  stressing that,  they were determined to deal ruthlessly with the remnants in the year ahead.

In his own remarks, the Special Guest of Honour, Governor Kashim Shettima, represented by the Deputy Governor, Usman Mamman Durkwa commended the military for bringing together officers, soldiers and their family members to mark the end of the year activities as encapsulated in NASA.

He said: “It is common knowledge to everyone in this country,that for the past ten years our military officers and men had in conjunction with other security formations contributed greatly to the fight against insurgency and other criminal activities in the north east”.

The governor urged the NA to sustain the cordial relationship existing between the military and civilian population in the state while assuring them of governments continued support to enable them carry out their statutory responsibilities.

Highlight of the occasion included traditional dances, drama, tug of war and presentation of gifts to deserving personalities.
