In-coming Chief Samuel Ortom-led administration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue state has said that it must probe the out-going Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government led by Governor Gabriel Suswam.
The governor-elect commenting on the 8 SUV vehicles handed to him by Suswam last week declared that his team would not put the vehicles to use until after the May 29 handover date after which they would probe further to find out the how come of the cars and source of finance for their purchase.
Ortom disclosed this while fielding questions from newsmen at a media briefing in Makurdi, yesterday, adding that the development was taking a cue from the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, who “intends to probe the missing $20 billion NNPC funds.”
He noted amongst other things that the in-coming government would have to trace the source and cost of the vehicles as they had been duly informed that the vehicles had been lying at the Government House for months before they were handed to them.
Ortom, who spoke through the deputy governor-elect, Benson Abounu, pointed out they collected the vehicles for fear that they might be diverted to other uses.
Earlier, he advised Suswam not to embark on the implementation of any project that would have “huge financial implications” on the in-coming administration.
He said there were attempts by Suswam “to commit the in-coming administration in several ways without the courtesy of consultations,” urging that projects “with financial implications for the in-coming government, must be taken in consultations with us.”
Ortom also alleged “that there is on-going massive recruitment in government ministries, parastatal and agencies as well as indiscriminate promotions.”
