We ‘ve forced down smuggling by 15 % – Customs

The coordinator, Joint Border Patrol Team (JBPT) Sector 3, Comptroller Olugboyega Peters Wednesday said the team has forced down smuggling activities by 15 percent even as he announced seizure of N28. 2million worth of prohibited items within two months.

Olugboyega disclosed this at a press briefing held at Sector 3 headquarters in Ilorin.

He said smugglers no longer find it business as usual because the service was always ahead of them.

The Customs boss said the smuggling rate in the state has gone down to as low as 15% compared to what used to be in the past.

He said, “The sector has made appreciable progress in its anti-smuggling activities by recording a total number of 35 seizures of various prohibited items within the period under review with a total Duty Paid Value (DPV) N28, 203,700.

“It is also important to note that the successes recorded in our operations in this sector could be attributed to the good motivation from the Nigeria Customs Service management, office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and other sister agencies which has boosted the morale of officers and kept them in high spirit at all times.”
