We won’t dialogue with bandits – Buratai

Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Tukur Yusuf Buratai, Wednesday launched the 2020 Nigerian Army Day Celebration at Special Army Super Camp in Faskari local government of Katsina state, vowing not to entertain peace dialogue with bandits who terrorised the North-west states.

Buratai stated this while addressing journalists shortly after flagging off of the 2020 Nigerian Army Day celebration.

Lt. Gen Buratai further stated that the Nigerian Army has no further option than to use force mechanism to combat banditry, kidnapping and other criminality bedeviling the northwest.

“To me, dialogue with terrorists called bandits and kidnappers is a political policy and we have no objection if the respected states affected with banditry adopted dialogue with them as a way out; we are ready to support it, but we must use our force to end this menace,” Buratai said.

He said the Nigerian Army under his supervision in collaboration with sister security agencies will work hand in hand to ensure curbing of banditry, kidnapping and other criminalities bedeviling the North-west in the country.

He said the theme of the 2020 Nigerian Army Day celebration is “Nigeria’s Territorial Defence and Sovereignty: Imperatives for Nigerian Army’s Sustained Training and Operations.”

He said adequate logistics and welfare of the officers and men of the Nigerian Army and other joint task security agencies will be fully provided and protected with a view to address the lingering security challenges facing the not only the northwest but country as at large.
