We’II reposition Kano fire service for better impacts – Commissioner

Kano state Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Alhaji Muazu Magaji, has expressed the resolve of government to reposition the state Fire Service for greater results.

Speaking to newsmen after paying a familiarisation visit to the state headquarters  of the fire service in Kano Tuesday, Magaji said the state government was on course to making the fire fighting outfit a formidable one in line with the  best global practices, stressing that efforts would also be intensified to ensure that it secures sophisticated gadgets needed to  confront the challenges of fire outbreaks.

The commissioner said he was highly impressed by what he assessed on ground after taking stock of the inventory of the fire fighting equipment, adding that  the trucks he had inspected were up to standard and had the capacity to be used in emergency situations effectively.

He said, “from what I saw on ground, I am pretty confident that you and your men are combat-ready in facing the challenges of fire fighting. You have the much needed equipment in addition to having personnel who are ready to face the battle squarely. His Excellency had demonstrated his will to extend a firm hand of support to this outfit to live up to expectation and I have no doubt about the governor’s resolve.”

“With what I have seen on ground, I must commend you for the giant strides you effected to keep your organisation committed and vibrant. I must really commend you and give you a pass mark.”

 In his response, the director, Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Sagir Madaki, said  the Service had been made to answer its name as a result of the great and immense contributions given to it by Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje towards  surmounting obstacles militating  against it.

According to him, with the active support of the state government   under  the leadership of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje he was able to  effect the refurbishment of the fire fighting vehicles  that were  moribund in recent times, stressing that  constant maintenance was what was most needed in keeping the fire fighting equipment afloat.
