The federal government yesterday said the May 29 Democracy Day celebration would go on despite the bombings and distractions by insurgents in some parts of the country.
Briefing State House correspondents after the weekly  Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in Abuja, Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku said the council held that the aim of terrorists is to make the country lose confidence in itself and its democracy.
He said government would not succumb to the antics of the insurgents, and had already lined up activities to showcase its achievements in the last four years as part of Democracy Day celebration.

Maku said the programmes were being organised by the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, while the Ministry of Information would undertake documentaries in all aspects of the nation’s development in the last four years, which would be translated into local languages and aired across the country.
He said the 2014 edition of the ministerial platform, which is the final edition before the general elections, would return in June with graphics and pictures of achievements of the administration sector by sector.
He said: “In spite of all the distraction of terror which tempted us to lose confidence in ourselves and in our democracy, we believe that in the last four years, the country has witnessed momentous development in all sectors of our economy as a result of the president’s transformation agenda.”
