We‘ll monitor implementation of campaign promises – (MMPN)

Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN) has stated that it would monitor the implementation of all political parties’ manifestos and electoral promises by elected politicians with a view to enhancing good governance.

MMPN boss Alhaji Abdur-Rahman Balogun said this at the 13th annual Ramadan public lecture with the theme “Fulfilling Electoral Promises,” held at the national Mosque, Abuja on Saturday.

Balogun said the objective of the lecture was to educate and sensitise politicians who have won elective positions on significance of fulfilling electoral promises, ahead of May 29th inauguration.

He said that fake campaign promise or lack of fulfilling electoral promise is a grievous sin in the sight of the Almighty Allah.

According to him, it is worrisome that almost 59 years after the attainment of political Independence, the country was still where it was because of bad leadership who made promise and failed to fulfill their promises to the electorate.

“Islam believes that good leaders breed good followers and by extension, good governance.

“Since independence, Muslims has had cause to lead this country for 10 times out of the 18 head of states or presidents.

“But the question is how has the nation faired under their rule? would Nigerians prefer a Muslim leader as against non-Muslim in future polls?”

The guest speaker, Chief Imam of Ansar-ud-deen Mosque Dr Musa Olaofe admonished politicians to fear Allah and shun all forms of corruption and corrupt practices.
