An aspirant to the governorship seat in Anambra state, Dr. Ifedi Okwenna, has vowed to return the state to the position of self-sufficiency if elected, away from the state of indebtedness as is the case at the moment.
Aspiring to be elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the gubernatorial poll slated for November 6, 2021, Okwenna lamented that the debt profile of the state, which he argued was industrious enough to avoid borrowing, was standing at about N60 billion.
He told journalists after picking his expression of interest and nomination forms in Abuja, that it was time for the Anambra people to enthrone competence, excellence, due process, transparency and accountability as well as purposeful leadership, which were the cardinal objectives behind his aspiration to govern the state.
The former commissioner for Environment, Mineral Resources and Science and Technology between 2006 and 2008 said, “We must rebuild trust in governance and in the governmental system because the legitimacy of our political and social system is built on the trust and confidence of the people who elected us. Trust contributes to social and economic stability, and allows public policy to be successful.
“My aspiration to be governor of Anambra is anchored on making the state a leading destination for youth in Nigeria and returning the state as leading centre for commerce, trade and industry.
“Also, we’ll make Anambra the leading centre for innovation and entrepreneurship development and create a system where government cares and projects her citizens anywhere they may be”, expressing concern however that Anambra at the moment, lacked basic infrastructure to back up the vast entrepreneurial and commercial opportunities abounding in the state.
