Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom, has assured the Christian community in the state that he would support their pursuit of genuine causes at all times.
He spoke yesterday at St Joseph’s Parish, Akpehe, in Makurdi during a thanksgiving service held for him by the parishioners.
The governor stated that he would include the construction of the Akpehe-Iorhom road in the contract for the construction of township roads in the state capital, provide an electricity transformer for the area even as he made financial contribution to the completion of the parish adoration centre at the service as requested.
Ortom expressed appreciation to the parishioners for their support during the 2015 polls and thereafter and appealed for their sustained prayers for him to take right decisions and overcome challenges of statecraft for the benefit of the people.
Governor Ortom stated that he had found a solution to the difficulty in paying salaries, pointing that he would remove illegal workers from the payroll so that genuine ones could be paid promptly.
He said with the new measures that would be introduced to reduce the monthly wage bill from N7.8 billion to N4.5 billion, salaries could be paid regularly from a monthly income of about N6.5 billion from the beginning of next year while he would source for funds to pay the arrears.
On the implementation of the anti-open grazing law, he stated that 20 herdsmen and three youths have been arrested and were being prosecuted for its contravention, assuring that all would be treated on equal basis.
President of the Parish Laity Council, Mr Matthew Atondo, had exhibited the fear of God, truth, transparency and concern for the plight of the people which endeared him to the parishioners who requested the mass to seek divine intervention for him.
