Minster of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, has restated the commitment of the FCT Admiration to boosting the Agricultural sector in the FCT.
Bello, who stated this while on visit to Paikon-kore grazing reserve in Gwagwalada Area council of the FCT, added that “the visit will tenable me assess the facilities on ground towards the take-off of activities at the reserve.”
He said “when fully operational the reserve will not only boost animal production but also attract the development of value chain industries which will in turn open up opportunities for Job creation for the teeming youth.”
The priority given to the agriculture sector, he added, was in line with the economic revival programmes of the present Administration, predicated on the provision of the much-needed support to farmers towards poverty alleviation and an engine for economic growth.
While addressing the Paikon-Kore community leaders and youths who were on-hand to receive him, Bello sued for peaceful co-existence which he insisted, was the only panacea for development.
He stressed that both the farmers and pastoralist need to work together towards the common good of their people.
While urging the community to embrace modern trends in Agriculture, adding that the grazing reserve would be equipped with modern facilities towards giving an impetus to food production.
Speaking earlier, the chairman of Gwagwalada area council, Adamu Mustapha Danze, commended the Minister for the visit which “will go a long way in reassuring the Paikon-Kore community of good intentions of the FCT Administration in establishing the grazing reserve.”
Also speaking, the Agrura of Zuba, Alhaji Muhammad Bello Umar, applauded the Minister for constituting a committee to resolve all contending issues with regards the grazing reserve.
He emphasised on the need to carry stakeholders along towards finding lasting solutions to the disagreement between the pastoralists and farmers.
…Orders directional signs, road markings’ installation
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Muhammad Bello, has directed the FCT Transportation Secretariat to fast-track road markings and the installation of directional signs on major roads in the territory.
Bello gave the directive on Monday when he paid an official visit to the Transportation Secretariat and its allied agencies.
According to him, providing those vital directional signs is necessary to make the roads easily navigable and safer.
In keeping with this administration’s focus on service efficiency, Bello, while addressing the management, stressed the need for the secretariat to overhaul its business process.
According to him, this is with a view to achieving a cutting edge, operational efficiency and technologically sound operational architecture.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the minister visited the dumpsite for impounded tricycles in Durumi, the Auto Pond, and Recycling Plant in Gosa and the Task Force Area Command in Wuye.
He directed the secretariat to digitalise the documentation of scrapped vehicles for efficient data management and accountability, while harping on the necessity to keep the dumpsites clean.
Bello also charged the officers to always give owners of the impounded vehicles enough time to come forward to claim the seized vehicles before they were scrapped.
He urged the management to be more innovative, and ensure financial prudence to meet the demand of transportation management in a growing city like Abuja.
Earlier, the Secretary, Transportation Secretariat, Kayode Opeifa, informed the minister that the workers were working hard to reposition the Secretariat for a more efficient operation.
Opeifa underscored the critical role of transportation in the effort of the government to revitalise the economy.
“Transportation and mobility are the life-wire of any city and no government can afford to toy with it,” he said.
The secretary appealed to the minister to approve additional Department of Policy and Planning as a central command centre for evolving transportation policies in the Territory.
Abuja airport wins Most Improved International Airport award
Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja (NAIA) has been voted the Most Improved International Airport in Nigeria for the year 2017 at the 8th Nigeria Aviation Award.
The award ceremony, which took place on Monday, also saw the Airport Manager for NAIA, Mr. Sani Mahmud, as the Airport Manager of the Year.
The organisers of the event, Nigeria Aviation Awards (NIGAV), acknowledged the improvement recorded by NAIA management in ensuring the timely completion of the runway rehabilitation in 2017.
The airport was also recognised for the turnaround of its terminal building including, the opening of new terminal and decongestion of the airport generally.
NGAV stated that NAIA under the leadership of Mahmud has led the drive towards maintaining international standard hygienic practices both within and outside the airport premises.
It added that the airport under Mahmud also got its aerodrome certification for the first time since inception from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) in November 2017.
Receiving the award, Mahmud thanked the organisers for the recognition and promised to do more to maintain the feat and also build on the current achievements.
“I am grateful for this award and I promise to do more to achieve more,” he said.
