We’re dedicated to capacity building for our members – ICSAN

The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN) is a leading and recognized professional body dedicated to enhancing the status and and practice of Corporate Governance and Public Administration has reiterated its commitment towards capacity building for Chartered secretaries and administrators in the country

Dr. Adeyinka Hassan, FCIS Chairman Corporate Governance Capacity Building Committee of ICSAN who disclosed this recently at press parley, said apart from from capacity building for members, ICSAN is also concerned about ensuring the principles of corporate governance in both the corporate and public world through adequate trainings and retraining of our members.

“So what we are doing in essence is to ensure that we help build capacity in our members, and even older people who are not our members are also invited to be part of our various programs. One of the things we do is, the corporate governance around.

“What do we do with the corporate governance roundtable is to bring together thought leaders to share their views on the subject, and in the process, extracts capacity for everybody that is participating in the program.

“We also look at the public sector and see what contribution we can make in terms of policy developments with the government and various strata of the economy. Our topic for the corporate governance roundtable is bordered on ethical governance in boardrooms.

According to Dr. Hassan, the aim is to strengthen capacity in terms of boardroom governance and also equip participants in our programs with the tools needed in managing boardroom crises.

In her own submission, Taiwo Olusesi FCIS, Registrar/CEO of ICSAN, said the most important issue now is corporate governance.

“There has been a lot of failure in terms of corporate management, and what contribution are we making to strengthen our corporate policy to ensure success in our own business and that is what corporate governance is all about.

“There has been a lot of, let me start with the education of the members of the institute. There are specific courses dedicated to the cause of corporate governance, we have a corporate governance as a course on its own. We’ve been training people on a corporate board evaluation board, corporate governance audit in line with the recent corporate code of corporate governance.

Also speaking at the press parley, Lynda Onefeli, FCIS, Chairperson Publicity Committee of ICSAN, said the body wants to up their skills for the people who are in the practice of corporate governance.
