We’re not part of VC’s selection process – SSANU

Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), UniZik chapter, has denied media reports that it was supporting the candidacy of Prof. Joseph E. Ahaneku as vice-chancellor of the institution.

The union, arising from its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on June 23, 2014, said SSANU had never been part of the selection of VC since inception and should not be dragged into the politics of selection.
In a communiqué jointly signed by chairman and secretary of the branch, Comrade Njelita Louis and Nwangwu Njideka, respectively, the union warned mischief makers not to tarnish the image of SSANU as the purported article did not emanate from the union.
The communiqué added that the purported article was the handiwork of mischief markers whose intention was to cause disaffection between SSANU, the management, Governing Council and other stakeholders.

SSANU said the union was ever ready to work with anyone who emerged from the selection process and “cannot be seen” supporting individual.
It said: “The attention of SSANU UNIZIK has been drawn to a publication in Sunday Sun Newspapers of June 22, 2014 on page 66 with caption” our full unalloyed support for VC, Prof. Joseph E. Ahaneku.”
