Zonal Coordinator National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), North-west zone, Ishaya Isah Chonoko has expressed the agency’s preparedness in responding to emergency needs in times of banditry and flooding and ready to remain proactive in responding to peoples’ needs.
Speaking at a retreat organized by NEMA for staffers under the xone held in Kano Tuesday, Chonoko said there was the compelling need for NEMA staffers to develop further steps for disaster management discussion in view of the valuable opportunity to openly discuss that concerns the activities of the agency.
According to him, the retreat would be a perfect place for all staff to reflect on the organization and to spend some time thinking about a bigger picture of the Agency and to get everyone excited around a united mission and building bond between and among staff and stakeholders stressing that it was NEMA’s concern to ensure that collaborative relationship with stakeholders is greatly enhanced.
He, however stated that the National Emergency Management Agency had since embarked on the sensitization and awareness campaign of major stakeholders in disaster management due to the rise of major threats of banditry, kidnapping, incessant fire outbreaks and flooding among others ,resulting in colossal loss of lives and destruction of property.
He said” on this note, I called for a strong synergy and collaboration among NEMA staff, disaster management stakeholders and the communities to identify their responsibilities for proactive measures in preventing, responding and mitigating the impact of emergencies and disaster situations.”
“Ladies and gentlemen, let me therefore implore all of you as critical stakeholders, to use this forum to brainstorm and exchange ideas for your diverse professional perspectives and come out with a holistic and affordable ways by which we shall together confront all disaster situations” he retorted.
