We’re working for no one – Sobi FM chair

Chairman, Sobi FM, Ilorin, Alhaji Lukman Mustapha has debunked insinuations in some quarters that some opposition figures were behind the establishment of the radio station to pursue certain political interests ahead of 2019.
He however argued that plying opposition role was good for democracy, asserting that “in a country where there is no opposition, government will tilt from democracy to autocracy.”
Mustapha spoke during a media parley with select journalists in Ilorin where he responded to various issues concerning the operation of the new station and insinuations making the rounds that he was aspiring to be governor of the state in 2019.
The chairman said the station in less than one year of its operation had provided platforms for kwarans to expresses a ‘‘balanced view’’ on issue of governance, politics amongst others.
Describing the station as ‘‘Messiest oriented’’, Mustapha said ‘‘we have created a voice for the generality of the people. It’s very fallacious for anyone to tag us an opposition station, we are giving voice to people who have no voice,’’ he said.
On the reason for establishing a radio station, the former banker said ‘‘We have passion for changing how things are in the community, when you look at the History of Ilorin; there is a complete departure from our value-orientation.”
On whether he had the intention to aspire for governorship position in 2019, Mustapha who did not give a definite answer said, those peddling such rumours must have seen some qualities in him for which they believed he was good for the job.
Responding to questions on the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, Mustapha urged Kwarans to embrace the federal government’s anchor borrower’s scheme agricultural revolution as a means of diversifying the economy.
The trained banker said contrary to the belief of many investors, Ilorin is a business hub with a lot of untapped potentials that needed to be explored.
