We’ve achieved success in health care – Commissioner

Kano state government has said that it had achieved spectacular success in the area of health care by renovating, upgrading and providing necessary working tools in about 300 health facilities across the 44 local government areas of the state.
In a press statement, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Kabiru Ibrahim Getso, disclosed this yesterday while declaring open a four-day workshop for the development of 2018 work plan for Saving One Million Lives Programme for Results organised by the Ministry of Health in Kaduna state.
Getso said from the inception of the Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje administration to date over N7 billion had been spent in the procurement state-of-the-art equipment for the newly commissioned Muhammadu Buhari Specialist and Zoo Road Paediatric hospitals and other facilities such as Muhammad Abdullahi Wase and Murtala Muhammad Specialist hospitals, among others.
He stressed that the present administration had also done a lot in the area of employment of human resources for health, provision of quality drugs as well as introducing three new agencies under the ministry to strengthen health care services delivery, among many other interventions.
Speaking earlier, the National Programme Manager of Saving One Million Lives Programme for Results, Dr Ibrahim Kana expressed appreciation over the commitment demonstrated by Kano state government.
He stressed that the programme was aimed at improving on six key indicators which included Penta 3 vaccination, long-lasting insecticidal nets used by children under five.
“Others are contraceptives prevalence rate, skilled birth attendance at delivery, Prevention of Mother To Child Transmission of HIV, and improving Vitamin A coverage among children from six months to five years of age,” he said.
