Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Niger state, Barrister Tanko Beji, has called on the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration of Governor Abubakar Sani Bello to stop strapping the opposition, insisting that his party had dossiers on his maladministration enough to flush it out of power the ruling party in 2019.
Beji stated this yesterday when he received in audience the executive members of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) led by its Chairman, Comrade Aideloje Ojo, at the PDP state secretariat in Minna.
He said the state government had been intolerant to constructive criticisms and well articulated observations by the PDP on the inefficiency and visible lapses in the administration of the state.
He expressed disappointment over the failure of the APC administration to fulfill its campaign promises to the people after two years in office.
The PDP boss regretted that the APC government had resulted to intimidation and harassment of PDP members “using available security apparatus instead of harkening to the plight of the people.”
He said: “The APC government has resorted to arbitrary arrest of PDP members in an apparent measure to cajole and silent the opposition in Niger state. At the time we started constructive criticism of the administration in terms of what the people desired, they cooked up lots of allegations in order to arrest and incarcerate our members including me. I am not disturbed by my arrest; it makes me to be more popular. However, I will like the government to know that we have all the dossiers and we will use them as missiles in 2019.”
He said the APC administration had continued to fail the people since it took over power in 2015, adding that two years down the lane, the government has nothing to show that was commensurate with the huge finances accrued to the state within the period.
Earlier, in a remark, the Chairman of Correspondents’ Chapel, Comrade Aideloje Ojo, said the media would not compromise accurate reporting of events in the state in the interest of the public.
