Why we’ve not paraded Lapai bank robbery suspects – AIG

Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Fredrick Taiwo Lakanu, has explained that the police made breakthrough in the arrest of armed robbers that attacked two banks in Lapai area of Niger state few months ago but were yet to be paraded for security and strategic reasons.

Lakanu stated this yesterday in Minna after addressing officers of the Niger state police command at the police officers mess.

He said, “Like the Offa bank robbery, we have also made similar breakthrough in the Lapai banks robberies and some of the suspects have been arrested.”

He explained that the suspects were however not paraded yet in order not to jeopardize investigations, adding that “for security reasons sometimes especially if some of them are still out there, we wouldn’t need to reveal our strategies, But I can assure you that we are working assiduously to pick everybody involved in that heinous crime.”

The AIG said provisional approval has been given to the Niger state command to open new divisional police stations in the state for effective security of citizens considering the challenges in parts of the country.

He lauded the state police command for the peace and tranquility in the state and assured that the force was ready to protect lives and properties of the people.

Speaking on the recent jail break that occurred in Minna Prison, Lakanu said the police have been able to arrest more than half of the escapees, adding that those who were re arrested have given useful information that could lead to the arrest of others still on the run.
