In its effort to curb the incessant hostilities between farmers and cattle rearers, the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) Jigawa state chapter, has banned all forms of night grazing, night celebration as well as bailing any suspects arrested by the police.
State chairman of the Miyetti Allah, Alhaji Umar Kabir Dibantu, disclosed this while fielding questions from journalists shortly after their emergency meeting yesterday in Dutse.
He said most of the problems are being committed by the herds men rearing their cattle in the night, adding that they had equally band all forms of night celebrations to avoid fighting among the Fulani youths.
According to him, that Miyetti Allah has also issued out a standing order to stop bailing out their members arrested by the law enforcement agents throughout the state.
He said: “Unless we find out that the arrest is illegal, otherwise the suspects should be left to face the wrath of the law to serve as a deterrent to others. Because bailing the suspects without regard to what they had committed, always give them room to repeat the crimes.”
He also warned both the farmers and the herdsmen to always respect one another, because they share the same profession as far as one cannot do without the other.
“Even the recent clash between the farmers and herds men in Guri local government area of the state was not with the indigenous Fulani, but with those who migrated from somewhere to the place.”
He, therefore, advised that “farmers should always take their farm produce home immediately after harvest and also herds men should stop using superstitious believe that until they grazing on somebody’s farm that their cattle will multiply in numbers.
