What is Truth? Part 1

And Ye Shall Know The Truth, And The Truth Shall Make You Free – John.8:32.

When Jesus was brought into the judgment hall before Pilate, one of the many questions that Pilate put to Jesus was this question from John18:38; and I quote “Pilate saith unto Him, What is truth?”  Many Christians to-day, may be wondering in their hearts like Pilate, what this Truth is all about. Why did Jesus Christ say we shall know the truth and it shall make us free?  And that is exactly the subject-matter of this publication; the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth, will help us to understand what this Truth actually means.  The natural man, like Pilate will understand this Truth to mean “Not To Deny” any allegation of any particular crime or offence, committed.  But this is not the kind of truth, Jesus was talking about.

Jesus is talking about the Truth, without which, no Christian can enter heaven.  He is talking about the Truth, which points the way to eternal life.  The Truth, He is talking about is actually Himself, because Jesus says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man cometh to the father, except by me” John 14:6. Knowing this Truth, is to be made free from “Falsehood” which is One Word for all the lies of satan, whom Jesus Christ calls the father of all lies; further more Jesus Christ tells us emphatically that anyone who does not abide in this truth is a child of the devil, and will always do the lusts of his father, the devil as written in John 8:44.

Now, to answer the question – What is Truth?  Jesus Himself has provided the answer for all Christians, and so there is no cloak for their sin any more.  And the answer is found in the book of John 17:17 “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy Word is Truth”.  To sanctify means to free one from sin or evil, to make sacred or holy, or to set-apart for a sacred use.  And whatever will make one holy or pure, must first be pure and clean, without dirt and without any pollution. By this definition given by Jesus Christ, the Truth, therefore, is the clean, pure, and undiluted word of God that makes us free from sin and evil, and which makes us holy.  Jesus also calls it clean water in Ezekiel 36:25 and I quote “Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you.”  The Truth is the clean water that cleanses Christians of all their filthiness and from their idols, because no filthy or unclean person, or a Christian whose heart is full of idols, can enter the kingdom of heaven.

Apostle Paul also refers to the Truth as clean water in Ephesians 5:26, “That He (Jesus) might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word”.  This means that Falsehood, (the lies of satan) is the Unclean Water that makes the soul and spirit of Christians dirty, polluted and unfit for heaven.  And what the devil does to the pure word of God, to make it falsehood, is to either subtract from or add to the truth; for example, in Matthew 4:6, I quote “And he (satan) said unto Him (Jesus), if thou be the son of God cast thyself down, for it is written, He shall give His angels charge over thee … Lest At Any Time, thou dash thy foot against a stone”.  The devil quoted Psalm91:11-12, but he added his own words ‘at any time’ which are not in Psalm 91:11-12, and this is more or less satan’s open license for Jesus to tempt the Lord God.

Many of the religious practices and teachings that go on in some Churches to-day are either additions to or subtractions from the word of the prophecy of the Book of Life, where this truth is found. It brings the congregation under God’s judgment and makes them lose eternal life as written in Revelation 22:18-19.

Jesus said to His disciples in Matthew 13:11; and I quote “Because it is given unto you to know the Mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given”. And this is the Truth.  It is only given to a privileged few, who have found grace in the sight of God to understand through the Holy Spirit these deep things hidden inside the Bible.
