Whistle blowing: FCT police charge 2 over false information

An Abuja magistrate’s court yesterday sentenced one Monday Nweke to one month in prison over fake whistle blowing against the IGP, having pleaded guilty to the charge.

However, the presiding judge, Abdul Emeye, remanded the second accused person, Richard Akpan, who pleaded not guilty in prison custody over failure to meet his bail condition of N500, 000.

 

Police Prosecutor, Sgt Cyprian said the duo, on August 14, 2007, conspired to give the information to the police, thereby committing the offence punishable under section 97 of the Penal Code laws of Northern Nigeria, 2004.

 

Count 2 of the charge read: “That you, Monday Nweke ‘m’ and Richard Akpan ‘m’ on or about August 14, 2017 at FIB Abuja, within the Abuja Magistrate District, did give information to the Nigerian Police Force that are arms and ammunitions at No 510, 511 and 512 Wushishi District, Utako, Abuja and No 1 Cubbanni Crescent, Maitama, Abuja an information  you know to be false and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 178 of the Penal Code Laws of Northern Nigeria”.

The charge No CR/301/2017 was dated August 24, 2017
