WHO donates N8.4m facilities for disease surveillance in Jigawa

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has donated 28 fleet of N8.4million worth motorcycles to Jigawa state for surveillance and monitoring of impact of strategies aimed at tracking and reducing disease burden in the state.
Presenting the 28 motor cycles to the state government through the Commissioner of Health, Dr. Abba Zakari Umar, the WHO state coordinator, Dr. Sam Yenyi said the donation was made to enhance surveillance and build a highly sensitive and robust system in disease response in the state.
He cautioned Disease Surveillance and Notification Officers (DSNOS) on the need to intensify their commitment through visits to communities and health facilities, and linking with key hard to reach community informants.
According to him, Jigawa indices had indicated that there was tendency that six million persons, especially highly vulnerable populations were at risk of acquiring infectious diseases and facing other events of public health importance.
