Why FG extended resumption of Abuja-Kaduna train service – Official

The Federal Government has extended the resumption of the Abuja-Kaduna train services for another few days to ensure Nigerians get proper security measures before boarding the train.

The suspended train services on the route was meant to resume operations on Monday, November 28, 2022.

This is coming after eight months when the train service was suspended due to terrorists attack on the line, where over 10 persons were killed and over 50 others abducted.

The Minister of Transportation, Mu’azu Sambo, during an inspection of the Abuja to Kaduna train stations on Sunday said Nigerians are to provide their National Identification Number (NIN) before registering to board the train or when they buy through the counter.

“We have introduced a new system that before you buy a ticket, it requires you to provide a phone number, a National Identification Number (NIN) in order to profile the person boarding.

“That is the beginning of the security checks so at any point in time when the train moves from one point to another we know who are on board.

“I can’t disclose the security measures that we have put in place and I don’t have any apologies for that,” he said.

He said an adult can only register not more than four minors before using the train service.

Sambo assured Nigerians that a number of measures have been put in place in order to protect lives and properties when the train services resume.

He further said that it is only God Almighty that can give security assurance adding that so far he was satisfied with what they have seen but there were few areas that needs to be addressed.
